Remember when Bobby Flay thought it would be a good idea to throw down with a Texas chili-maker on that show of his? Yes, we were disappointed as well, and we're guessing that the tie he "earned" was probably paid for with Food Network money. We all know that a fancy-pants chef who works primarily with colorful bell peppers doesn't have the faintest idea how to make a proper chili, but the folks at the Texas Chefs Association do, and they could probably teach him a thing or two at the Chili Confrontation going down at this weekend's Chile Pepperama Festival at Old Town Shopping Center (Lovers Lane at Greenville Avenue). Get your spice on as you sample and judge more than a dozen chilis (chili tasting cups are $5), and when your taste buds need a break from all the heat you can check out the Junior Chefs Pumpkin Ice Cream Crank Off and Bake Sale, which promises to be capsaicin-free. In addition to the tasty treats available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, there will also be live music and entertainment as well as arts and craft vendors to enjoy. Call 972-943-4624 or visit chilepepperama.net.
Sun., Nov. 11, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., 2007
