The reading assignment for this round was to finish Larson's In the Garden of Beasts. Sounds like a lot, but it was just the final section and the epilogue.
As we did last time, we'll carry on below, in the comments. Please feel free to jump in with replies, questions, opinions, historical observations, etc. If you're a reader, we're glad to have you here.
We'll discuss the selection (and more, as evidenced previously) for 30 minutes to an hour (just depends on the discussion) so as not to disturb your entire afternoon, but don't hesitate to jump in and out, or offer comments well after that loose time limit.
This time time, however, we do hope that you'll pop in at some point not only to discuss In the Garden of Beasts, but also to offer suggestions for the next MOBC book vote. **Dammit. We don't want to misrepresent the situation, or give false hope: He's not coming. His Random House rep emailed today (2:47 p.m. Central, to be precise) to burst our bubble of hope with "Unfortunately Mr. Larson will not be able to participate. Thank you for your inquiry."
Hey, maybe he'll join us later for someone else's book. Or maybe another selected author will want to win over the Dallas market and grant us some comments. We can always dream.
