Every production at Matthew Posey's Ochre House theater goes to a dark place in some way. His latest, the musical The Butcher, sounds intriguingly perverse. Written and directed by Posey, who also stars, the show is described by its creator as "Kurt Weill meets Irish folklore." Set in Ireland during a famine, the plot finds a butcher (Posey) and his wife (Elizabeth Evans) encountering a talking pig (Kevin Grammer), two blind beggars named Castor and Pollux (Justin Locklear and Mitchell Parrack) and a Scottish meat inspector (Grammer again). Blood is spilled, Posey promises, though it's not clear whether it's supposed to be human or porcine. With original music and lyrics by members of Posey's Balanced Almond troupe, The Butcher plays 8:15 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays through June 4 at the Ochre House, 825 Exposition Ave. (across from the Fair Park DART station). Tickets to the 30-seat theater are $15 (cash or check only at the door) and admission includes free beverages before the show and at intermission. Call 214-826-6273 or visit ochrehousetheater.com.
