Dallas today may not be known for the highest degree of rockage, but it’s important to remember that once upon a time Dallas did, in fact, rock. For two decades starting in the ’50s, Dallas was the seat of music in the Southwest and the vinyl record distribution hub for five states. The hour-long documentary When Dallas Rocked takes a hard look at the city’s history in music, from Freddie King to KZEW. It’s the latest movie from local filmmaker Kirby Warnock, who’s hoping to remind everyone that there was indeed a time when Dallas eclipsed Austin as the nexus for music in Texas. Tickets are $10 for the showing at the Kessler Theater, 1230 W. Davis St. The bar opens at 6 p.m. and the reels start rolling at 8. For tickets and more information, visit thekessler.org.
