Whether or not there is still any dispute about the skin color of Jesus, it would be harder to answer why it matters; hence the apt and none-too-subtle title of the new TeCo theater production of Langston Hughes' Black Nativity. The show, originally written in 1961, traditionally features an all black cast in their recreation of the birth of Jesus Christ with American spirituals and a gospel music choir. You can let the biblical historians kick around the library while you get in the Christmas mood. Black Nativity has been performed on Broadway, but the Dallas production will appear on the Bishop Arts Theater Stage on South Tyler Street. The performance will run through Sunday, December 19. Showings are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with 3 p.m. afternoon showings on Sundays. For more info, visit Tecotheater.org.
