If there's anything thing in this world that's a sure beating, it's a comedian with a guitar. Sure, there are exceptions (like the wildly inventive Demetri Martin, for example) but usually, you know you're in for either barely funny novelty songs or horribly concocted impersonation scenarios like the one David Cross lampoons on his classic Shut Up You Fucking Baby album--"Hey, what if 'We Are the World' was sung by the cast of Friends? I think it'd go a little something like this..." Unfortunately, comedian Stephen Lynch falls into the first school, writing songs about things like the Special Olympics, special ed. and not being gay ("If I Were Gay"). It's not that we don't love us some offensive humor, either. It's just that Lynch's songs are so poorly written that they insult not only our delicate sensibilities, but also our intelligence. And he sings them in a wussy falsetto better suited to Christian rock than anything trying to be intentionally funny. But if you're a fan of Opie & Anthony and the like, there's a good chance you might love Lynch's show 8p.m. Friday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets are $29.50.
