Good thing the Miracle League of Frisco joined with the 2008 Winter Games of Texas—because it will take a miracle to pull off winter games in this part of the state. Just having snow would be unusual, but only a miracle could create a ski-worthy mountain in time for the games. I don't know how the league works—maybe they pray, or maybe they...oh, never mind. I should have read this press release before I started writing. Turns out the Winter Games won't need snow or a mountain, as they include basketball, fencing, figure skating, gymnastics, ice hockey, wrestling, table tennis and other seasonal sports. The Miracle League is for disabled athletes ages 5 to 19. Beginners and advanced bowlers from all over North Texas will bowl 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at Strikz Entertainment, 8789 Lebanon Road in Frisco. Information is at friscomiracleleague.org. Also Saturday will be the Celebration of Athletes and Winter Games Village at the Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium. It opens at 6 p.m. with carnival attractions and the Frisco Community Jazz Band. At 7 p.m. the Celebration of Athletes opens, featuring the Parade of Athletes, lighting of the cauldron and fireworks. Information for other events Friday through Monday is at taaf.com/wintergames.asp or 877-463-7472.
