The horror comedy is a tricky topic to tackle because it has balance both genres in one movie. It’s like watching a plate spinning act. If it goes wrong, it’s still entertaining but for all the wrong reasons. The Spanish movie Witching and Bitching is one of the good ones. It has been geeting all sorts of acclaim for being delightfully gory and still funny, as it tells the story of a recently divorced dad who’s so desperate for cash that he steals a supply of gold wedding rings and flees right into the path of a coven of cannibal witches. Director Alex de la Iglasia’s horror comedy screens at The Texas Theatre, 231 W. Jefferson Blvd., at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $10 and available thetexastheatre.com.
Fri., July 11, 8 p.m.; Sat., July 12, 5:30 p.m.; Sun., July 13, 8 p.m.; Tue., July 15, 9:15 p.m.; Thu., July 17, 7 p.m., 2014
