I don't expect a Dallas Mavericks' deal before this afternoon's 2 o'clock NBA trade deadline. Couple of reasons.
First and foremost, the Mavs are 41-16 after last night's thumping of the short-handed Utah Jazz and have won 14 of 15 since Dirk Nowitzki's sprained knee healed. With the additions of Peja Stojakovic and Roddy Beaubois, kinda feels like Dallas already made a trade for two new players.
Secondly, given that they don't have a glaring need or weakness, there isn't alot out there to help Dallas. The Mavs have some interest in Denver's J.R. Smith and Detroit's Tayshaun Prince - guys with similar skill sets to Caron Butler and expiring contracts - but neither acquisition is likely.
Talked to Mavs general manager Donnie Nelson yesterday afternoon on 105.3 The Fan and he gave me two emphatic answers to two direct questions.
Q: Do you anticipate making a trade?
A: No.
Q: Can this team, as currently constituted, win the NBA Championship?
A: Yes.
All right, then. Game. on.
