Texas Rangers - Jim Thome. The left-handed slugging free agent would, I assume, join Michael Young for a righty-lefty platoon designated hitter. I know Thome is a sexy name with some pop left in his bat, just not real sure where he fits in.
Dallas Mavericks - Dirk Nowitzki. The signing of Sasha Pavlovic notwithstanding, they desperately need their star back. They are 2-5 without Dirk, with him being fitted for -- but ultimately refusing -- a bulky brace on the sprained right knee he suffered two weeks ago. He expects to return sometime during Dallas' impending four-game road trip.
Dallas Stars - Respect. Now that the Cowboys' coaching search is over and we've crowned a national champ in college football, maybe some of us will take time to realize the local hockey team is having a pretty interesting season. The Stars, led by somebody named Jamie Benn, just won their franchise-record tying seventh consecutive road game and are among the best teams in the NHL's Western Conference.
Dallas Cowboys - Vig Fangio and Greg Manusky. Wait, who? ...
New head coach Jason Garrett is looking west for his defensive coordinator, interviewing Stanford DC Vic Fangio and preparing to talk to San Francisco 49ers DC Greg Manusky sometime this week.
Both guys would keep Dallas in the 3-4. Other names on Garrett's potential wish list: Mike Singletary and Eric Mangini.
Interestingly, Jason has given his brother -- tight ends coach John -- permission to talk to the Miami Dolphins about their offensive coordinator position.
