As someone who has written several musicals based on great movies, I am happy when someone takes an awesome flick and turns it into an awesome musical. In these days of Sam Raimi as Hollywood mega-director, it behooves us to take a look back at where it all began with his first film, The Evil Dead. And what better way to revisit than with an all-singing, all-dancing, musical. If you have never seen the movie, it is basically about some college kids who, while camping in the woods, accidentally find the "Book of the Dead" and unleash demonic bloodthirsty forces. If this sounds like an unlikely subject for a musical, just remember three words: Jesus Christ Superstar. The Dallas Hub Theater is bringing the dead back to tap dancing life with Evil Dead: The Musical. I can't think of a better movie to transform into a musical (except maybe Face/Off) so it should be a blast for all the ghouls out there. The only question is if it will be as good as the musical episode of Buffy. See for yourself as Evil Dead: The Musical shows at the Dallas Hub Theater, 28109 Canton St. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through October 31. Tickets are $20.
