Sudden death is neither easily understood nor reconciled. Oftentimes, survivors cling to the tangible, material memories those that pass leave behind. When possible, the most amazing mourning for and celebration of a life can take place thanks to the dead's creations. We can feel the artist's energy. We can fawn. We can appreciate. We can remember and adore. In Katie Bolka's case, those that didn't know the 17-year-old artist before she was killed in a car accident last summer, can discover her artwork, and the works of other Ursuline Academy students and local artists, in a reception honoring the young woman at Also Gallery, 1425 Dragon St. The event takes place from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. Saturday.
