To say that Tyler Perry has written a few plays is like saying Eugene Levy has appeared in a few American Pie films. OK, it's not exactly the same thing, but we try not to miss any opportunity, however misplaced, to mention that Eugene Levy is a shameless whore. What we're trying to get across here is that Tyler Perry is ridiculously prolific. His subject matter may not deviate too far from well-worn anecdotal tales of marital rigmarole and/or familial dysfunction, but it has no doubt proven to be a lucrative formula. Personally, we'd love to see Tyler Perry's Intergalactic Invaders From Planet Kill-Bot or Tyler Perry Presents: Madea's House of Demon Prostitutes. Something tells us that isn't about to happen. Tyler Perry's The Marriage Counselor (which is noted to have originally carried the title Ain't Nothin' Like Family and, despite advertisements prominently featuring the playwright's picture, does not actually feature Mr. Perry) debuts Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Music Hall at Fair Park, 909 First Ave. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with 3 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets range from $42.50 to $51.50 and can be purchased by calling 214-565-1116 or visiting ticketmaster.com.
