In his desperation to reclaim his early '90s success, Pauly Shore filmed a movie in which he faked his own death (Pauly Shore Is Dead). His 2005 reality show (Minding the Store) also focused on returning Shore to his former glory, with a different but equally pathetic twist: Viewers who didn't laugh once during the show were encouraged to mail a self-addressed stamped envelope to the network for a refund of $1. Then last December in an Odessa comedy club, an angry heckler stormed the stage and punched his lights out. Internet videos surfaced showing the former "weasel" in a heated exchange with a club-goer in a cowboy hat who (encouraged by the audience) knocked Shore to the floor. Within 48 hours the incident was revealed to be a hoax, perpetrated with full cooperation from Shore, the audience and an off-duty police officer in attendance. The only question that remains is where does Pauly go now? Take a trip to the Improv this weekend and maybe he'll ask you to defecate on his credibility's corpse. Pauly Shore's in town, beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Friday (additional shows through Sunday) at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road. Get tickets for $25 (or buy Patton Oswalt's latest CD and a dime bag). Call 972-404-8501 or visit improv.com.
