Fair Park Rings in the Season

They may have been cleared from City Hall grounds and their occupiers sent home (or to jail, in some cases), but less than a week later tents have started going back up around the city, the state and the country. People will brave the elements, take time away from their families and make sacrifices. No, it’s not the Occupy movement. It’s “Hell no! We won’t pay retail price!” or alternatively, “Hell no! We won’t act like civilized people when there are steep discounts on flat-screen televisions to be had!” For many, this is what Thanksgiving really means. If you’re more likely to want to spend time with your family on the holiday weekend than to Occupy Target, perhaps we can recommend a truly entertaining and fulfilling day of fun, merriment and fireworks that will kindle some true holiday spirit, with no camping out required. Fair Park Holiday will run from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and features Santa’s Workshop, dancing water shows at the Esplanade Fountain, a tree-lighting ceremony and a fireworks finale that will light up the kids’ eyes way more than the fluorescent tracks in any big box store. There will be concessions, live music, free or reduced admission to participating Fair Park museums and even some light shopping for the diehards.
