Typically, we at the Observer don’t associate with scavengers, Dumpster divers or unruly birds of prey — they tend to carry easily transmittable parasites, wear colorful open sores or just have frustratingly misspelled neck tattoos, none of which are terribly appetizing. However, in the world of Finders, we draw a few exceptions: Found Magazine, the Found Footage Festival and A/V Geeks are welcome in our hearts’ trash bins any old time. Those dudes turn discards into time-capsule-worthy artifacts. They place their found crap on humanity’s altar and proclaim it the best of the worst. They give us glimpses into hyper-personal parts of other people’s lives as told through trash. It’s damn miraculous, this cultural hunting and gathering, and on Saturday night we’ll get to see a finding cage match as Found Magazine, the Found Footage Festival and A/V Geeks wage a finding war at Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.). Think Highlander for scavengers, as the victor will absorb the life force of his failed opponents. (Technically, that last bit may or may not happen. Press materials were vague regarding power transferal specifics.) Visit thetexastheatre.com. It’s at 8 p.m. and costs $12.
