When I was a young lad, I went fishing nearly every summer on a charter boat off the coast of South Padre Island. Almost invariably, the captain of said vessel would play Jimmy Buffett cassettes during our voyage, ostensibly believing the friendly sounds of "Cheeseburger in Paradise" would draw in the fish from miles around. Unfortunately, Archibald MacLeish's This Music Crept by Me Upon the Waters was written in 1953, well before the heyday of the Coral Reefer Bandsorry, Parrotheads. The play does, however, tell the story of an island paradise and the vacationers who populate its sandy beaches, something any Buffett fan can appreciate. Catch Music 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (through January 27) at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Dr. Tickets are $12 to $20 and the show is BYOCB (Bring Your Own Cheeseburger).
