Who doesn't like a good story? Whether it's a Dr. Seuss classic, one of Steinbeck's novels or even a one-act play, a good narrative is hard to beat. What many don't know is that it isn't just parents making up plotlines for sleepy toddlers and pros working on their great American publishing dream, but teens are also creating their own works. This year's Playwrights Under Progress (PUP) Fest features five talented high-school students who are ready to deliver a story. The five students present their staged readings developed through playwriting workshops with Kitchen Dog Artistic Company Members Vicki Caroline Cheatwood, David Goodwin and Erin Burdette. The readings include: The Drama of the Dead Dog by Leah Bell, a freshman at Richardson High School; Spring by Graham Dudley, a junior at Booker T. Washington; Hell Freezing Over by Haleyna Kocluk-Garza, a sophomore at W.T. White High School High School; Whiskey and Coke by Courtney Norris, a senior at Booker T. Washington High School; and A While by Katrina Thompson, a senior at Greenhill School. The Tenth Annual PUP Fest kicks off this Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Heldt/Hall Theater at McKinney Avenue Contemporary, 3120 McKinney Ave. Admission is free.
