“Don’t Mess with Texas” is gospel around these parts, but the adage should really be “Don’t Mess with Texas Women, Especially Those Like Molly Ivins.” Our ladies are big and bold, and none more so than Miss Molly, who used her satirical wit and no-holds-barred attitude to delight and annoy readers all across the country for almost 40 years. Tough as she was, she was unable to beat the beast known as breast cancer, and though she died in 2007, she’s making a comeback of sorts. Sisters Margaret and Allison Engel put their love of Ivins to paper and the result is the five-year labor of love known as Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins. It’s made its rounds all over the country, and now the one-woman show is coming to town, presented by WaterTower Theatre and Stage West. Check out a different kind of kick-ass at 8 p.m. Friday at the Studio Theatre at the Addison Theatre Centre, 15650 Addison Road. Tickets are $20 to $27.50 and performances are Tuesdays through Saturdays, through September 29. Call 972-450-6232 or visit watertowertheatre.org.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 20. Continues through Sept. 28, 2013
