Every girl remembers her first love. For some girls it was the boy who lived next door, or the one who gave you your first kiss after a junior high dance. For me it was a little different. Mine was a 34-year-old womanizing, parapsychology professor who vanquished ghosts and lived in an abandoned firehouse with three other dudes. From the moment I saw my hero get slimed by a green apparition with an insatiable appetite, I knew he would always hold a special place in my heart. Yes, I am talking about Bill Murray's character, Dr. Peter Venkman, in the classic movie Ghostbusters. I was only a fetus when the movie first premiered, but I was still old enough to recognize that it would become an iconic one for generations to come. For those of you who lived under a rock in the '80s, Ghostbusters is about three unemployed, quirky scientists and one regular ol' firefighter that hit it big in the ghoul fighting business in New York City. The old school ghost hunting starts at midnight this Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. For more information, call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
