Guatemala, known for its volcanoes, its coffee and its majority Mayan population, isn't so good at soccer. In fact, the blue and white have never earned a berth in the World Cup. The United States, on the other hand, regularly qualifies, and in 2002, made it all the way to the quarterfinals. The team didn't fare as well in '06, scoring just one goal and getting bounced in the first round, but the team is on the up and up. Several of its stars play in the English Premier League, and the MLS is getting better every year (consider Houston's 2-0 pasting of Mexican powerhouse Pachuca last week). So the national team, which is 2-0 this year with wins over Denmark and arch rival Mexico, shouldn't have much trouble with Guatemala, especially considering that it will be playing for the first time in '07 with its full squad. The game is 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. For tickets visit pizzahutpark.com.
Wed., March 28, 8 p.m.
