It's only appropriate that the University of North Texas' International Office chose the works of Ang Lee to screen as part of UNT's observance of 2009 International Education Week (November 16-21). The award winning Taiwanese-American director has a knack for portraying his characters, wherever (and whenever) they are, with a brutal realism like no other, making their struggles universal for all. With a diverse filmography that includes such greats as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm and Brokeback Mountain, Lee's films are the perfect choice for exploring the cultural conflicts that people face, regardless of time and place. UNT-International's Ang Lee Film Festival will screen his first three films, Pushing Hands (Monday), The Wedding Banquet (Wednesday) and Eat Drink Man Woman (Saturday, November 21), which will all be shown at 7 p.m. in the Lyceum of UNT's University Union, one block west of Welch and Prairie streets (1155 Union Circle).
