Every few years, some old-timey crafting skill catches on with trendy young people. Cool kids wore macrame hemp jewelry when I was in school (though this was as much an unsubtle way to let people know you smoked weed as it was fashion statement). Later, knitting needles and a bag of yarn became hot hipster accessories. It's generally females who have the patience and interest, but occasionally dudes join in. Will quilting be the next hip craft? Maybe so, given that the Ice House Cultural Center, 1004 W. Page St., is displaying the impressive work of professional quilters Nelson Berry, Jack Brockette, Richard Larson and Terry Mosher in Men of the Cloth, part of Quilt Mania II, from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays through February 28. Call 214-670-7524 or visit quiltmania.org.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Jan. 10. Continues through Feb. 28, 2009
