Games like Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake transformed the video game universe from a tired collection of happy pixels into a bloody orgy of gaming greatness. The industry wouldn’t have produced modern FPS giants like Borderlands, Far Cry, and Call of Duty without id Software’s legendary vision for blood, beasts and bullets. So it goes without saying that such a pioneering wing of the gaming industry deserves its own convention, which is why Quakecon was born. Every year, the Woodstock of gaming brings together players from all over the world for a weekend of LAN parties, game previews and friendly fragging. It also gives ZeniMax Media’s studios the chance to unveil new projects. This year’s plans include the long-awaited unveiling of the first Doom 4 demo to the masses at the Hilton Anatole Hotel, 2201 N. Stemmons Freeway. The convention kicks off Thursday and continues all weekend. More information and weekend passes can be found at quakecon.org.
