There's just no way that Greg Mortenson had any idea that when he fell ill trying to climb K2, he--as just one man--could make such an impact on Pakistan and Afghanistan. Since that fateful time, he's endeavored to make education and literacy the driving force to achieve peace in Middle East communities. And that's in spite of waylays such as being abducted and being caught in the middle of a shootout. You may recognize his name from his first book, the acclaimed Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace One School at a Time, but now you can hear him discuss further experiences and his new first-person account, Stones Into Schools: Promoting Peace With Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, 7 p.m. Monday at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road at Walnut Hill Lane. Admission is free. Call 214-368-6348, ext. 254 or visit phpc.org.
