Hearing President Obama mention Stonewall — shorthand for the 1969 police raid on gay club Stonewall Inn in New York City — in his Inauguration speech was a milestone for gay rights, at a time when the legalization of same-sex unions is gaining traction. That will likely be discussed at the Stonewall Book Awards lecture, hosted by committee member Peter Coyl, who will announce the winners and honorees of the 2013 selections. The Stonewall Book Awards seek to honor those who have made significant contributions in gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender literature, in the areas of fiction, non-fiction and children’s/young adult. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the Oak Lawn Branch Library (4100 Cedar Springs Road) and is free. Call 214-670-1359.
