While still a relatively new sport compared to baseball, basketball or couples ice dancing, freestyle motocross has already forged its own memorable history within a few short years. We all remember where we were that fateful day in 2000 when Carey Hart first pulled off a backflip in competition. I think it was on the X Games. Or maybe it was when we were playing Xbox? Maybe both. But even on Xbox we couldn't pull off a double backflip. But Travis Pastrana can, as he so effortlessly displayed at last year's X Games. The word "extreme" is thrown about willy-nilly these days, but any sport that involves airborne acrobatic tricks with names like "Dead Body," "Kiss of Death" and "Backflip Satan Wrap" lives up to such description. And what could possibly be more entertainingly dangerous than applying the physical applications of BMX stunting and skateboarding to the apparatus of a speeding all-terrain motorcycle? Freestyle Motocross flips, flies and falls Saturday at American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $35. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
Sat., Jan. 6, 7:30 p.m.
