DOMA! DOMA! DOMA!: Little bits of news from the DOMA Nominees Showcase: When PPT agreed to a single-song encore at their closing set at What?Bar, they had already shut down their iMac and were jumping offstage when the crowd insisted "One more!," which resulted in a rousing version of "Work It Out," just before which Shanghai 5 singer Amy Curnow had joined the hip-hop crew to sing backing vocals on a song that was great, but And Another Thing can't remember which song, as we were floating on a sea of free Bacardi...Because of sound problems plaguing Suede Bar (which, admittedly, usually doesn't have live bands, so let's give 'em a break), Sarah Jaffe had to move her 7 p.m. set to the Greenville Avenue Public House. Two factors helped make the transition smooth: First, Money Waters was a no-show for his 7 p.m. set at the Pub, making the slot available, and second, Jaffe's equipment includes, um, a guitar and her vocal cords, both of which are portable. The result was a large gathering of Jaffe fans trooping down the street, following along in good spirits...Between sets at What?Bar, AAT heard from a reliable source some murmurings about the re-opening of a storied Dallas venue, so keep tuned in for updates in the future...On the record: Those free visors seem innocuous but prove quite painful when thrown from across a room, landing on the side of your head.

Upcoming CD release shows: Guitar master Ian Moore just wants To Be Loved at the Granada on Thursday, August 16. Sorta opens...The magic number for country singer Bodie Powell is 4104 at the Stagecoach Ballroom in Fort Worth on Saturday, August 18...According to alt-rockers Ransom, it's All for You at the Aardvark in Fort Worth on Saturday, August 18. Waking Alice and Soulville open.

Handstamps: It's a good week for punk, as the Double Wide hosts the '70s Punk Tribute show with Thunder Nut, The Ramonez and the Kansas City Faggots on Friday, August 17. By the way, the DW has started making their new white trash drink menu available, including some sort of YooHoo/vodka concoction and something that involves Mad Dog 20/20—reserve your Tipsy Tow now...Zounds Sounds' stunning pre-teen and teen Neil Young cover band, the Neil Youngsters, play a benefit for the Bridge School Thursday, August 16, at the AllGood Café...The Triggermen are white boyz who actually make decent rap—witty and sometimes urbane, sometimes sophomoric à la the Beastie Boys, though they owe more to Third Bass than anyone else. They perform Friday, August 17, at the Cavern...Glen Reynolds and Smile Smile get all soft and intense at the Cavern on Saturday, August 18...Ben Kweller returns to Hailey's in Denton on Saturday, August 18...Catch some decent old school disco at the McKinney summer concert series when KC and the Sunshine Band take the stage on Saturday, August 18. Question: Is it still possible to shake, shake, shake your booty when it won't fit into spandex pants anymore? You be the judge.
