DOMA!: Little bits of news from the DOMA Nominees Showcase: When PPT agreed to a single-song encore at their closing set at What?Bar, they had already shut down their iMac and were jumping offstage when the crowd insisted "One more!," which resulted in a rousing version of "Work It Out," just before which Shanghai 5 singer Amy Curnow had joined the hip-hop crew to sing backing vocals on a song that was great, but And Another Thing can't remember which song, as we were floating on a sea of free Bacardi...Because of sound problems plaguing Suede Bar (which, admittedly, usually doesn't have live bands, so let's give 'em a break), Sarah Jaffe had to move her 7 p.m. set to the Greenville Avenue Public House. Two factors helped make the transition smooth: First, Money Waters was a no-show for his 7 p.m. set at the Pub, making the slot available, and second, Jaffe's equipment includes, um, a guitar and her vocal cords, both of which are portable. The result was a large gathering of Jaffe fans trooping down the street, following along in good spirits...Between sets at What?Bar, AAT heard from a reliable source some murmurings about the re-opening of a storied Dallas venue, so keep tuned in for updates in the future...On the record: Those free visors seem innocuous but prove quite painful when thrown from across a room, landing on the side of your head.
