First came the news of Oso Closo's demise. Then went The Cut*Off. Then Odis. And, quickly following suit? 100 Damned Guns.
Basically: Four area bands have broken up in the past month.
Wait, sorry: Make that five.
Over the weekend, the pop-rockin' Hendrick also passed along a MySpace message to its fans, announcing its farewell. Read the note, penned by frontman and band namesake Josh Hendrick, in full, after the jump.
So, I guess, if you picked Hendrick in yesterday's pool, you've won?
Here's my take: Honestly, none of these break-ups are especially earth-shattering. Five decent bands with decent followings broke up. Big whoop. The good thing, I think, is that each of these acts had the wherewithal to admit that they'd each run their course. And now their members are free to explore other things.
Besides, each of these broken-up acts has been around for years by now--and, no offense, they really didn't have all the much to show for it aside from, I'm sure, the good times they and their fans shared.
That's nice and all, but it doesn't pay bills or make dreams come true.

Dear friends, fans and family of Hendrick,
It is with great sadness that I and the members of Hendrick would like to announce, after 8 years in the Dallas and surrounding area music scene that we will retire as a band.
Multiple reasons have led to this decision, none of which involve personal or creative differences. As a whole, we feel our time as a group has come to an end. We have no regrets. We could not be more grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have experienced over the last 8 years and I believe I speak for all members past and present when I say that we wouldn't trade the acquired memories for anything in the world.
Hans Grumbein and I conceived this band with the idea that we could create something unique and beautiful from the combination of differing influence and creative compromise. We would like to believe that we have achieved this idea by replacing compromise with complement and we THANK YOU for seeing the vision and appreciating the results.
You will still have 2 more opportunities to be a part of what we have poured our heart and soul into for the last 8 years. We will fulfill our commitment on May 8th at City Tavern in Dallas, TX and will announce our final show as soon as we have the t's crossed and the I's dotted on what we believe will be a "fitting farewell" some time, God willing, near the end of June.
I would like to thank Eli Lund, Danny Garcia, Jeff Henley, Joel Fruth, Kerie Sorrells, Brittany McWhorter, and Claire Murray who, from the beginning, have been extraordinarily supportive, the former members of Hendrick who gave so much time and effort to this project but most of all, Amy Grumbein for being and allowing this band to be such a big part of her life.
Our goal has always been to bring you joy. We hope you enjoyed it.
