Local hip hop fans have been waiting for this day for a while. Blue, the Misfit, a local producer and rapper who detoured to Los Angeles for several years before coming back to Dallas, has already set himself apart for his sludgy beats and gritty non-hooks. Having previously produced tracks for old L.A. friends like Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q, Blue got his own buzz going back in March thanks to the dark, grinding "Drugs on the Schoolyard," which flipped the script and featured K.Dot on the guest spot.
Blue's debut album, Child in the Wild, has been two years in the making, but it dropped just yesterday for streaming on Red Bull Sound Select. Check it out after the break.
Just to prove Blue isn't interested in taking the easy way out, "Drugs on the Schoolyard" is noticeably absent from the album's track list. Instead, Child draws on a host of other guests, local and otherwise: Slim Gravy and Paris Pershun of A.Dd+, Snow Tha Product, Devin Canady, and the World Famous Tony Williams. No matter, though; these 15 tracks are dense and colorful, with the guest spots there to augment Blue's intricate vision -- at times trap, at other psychedelic.
There's no mention yet of a physical release for Child in the Wild, nor of a local release show. However, you can stream and download the full album for free on Red Bull Sound Select.
