If you're dying to something to listen to other than Perry Como holiday songs, we've got you covered. Listen to the classic and the amusing below.
”Christmas in Hollis” by Run-DMC.
This late '80s take on Christmas by hip-hop pioneer Run-DMC has worked its way into everyone's top holiday tunes list. We're no different. It's on the iPod, the radio and “Christmas in Hollis” is available alongside “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” on a handful of Christmas compilation discs. Once you hear, “It's Christmastime in Hollis, Queens/Mom's cooking chicken and collard greens” you're surely grinning and bobbing your head to the beat.
”Merry Mex-mas” by El Vez
Somehow El Vez manages to turn “In the Ghetto” -- er, 'in the barrio' – into a Christmas song. No, seriously. Just see what we're talking about. The video below is from a live show in Houston.
”12 Pains of Christmas”
Admittedly, many people have a love/hate relationship with the “12 Pains of Christmas.” I, however, can't help myself and dig it. It think it's relatable to those of us who end up super involved in Christmas stuff. I do all the shopping for both my and my fiancé's families, so much of the song applies. (Though, I admit, shopping online spared me from a lot of the mall hell.) So, for those out there who are knee deep in holiday cheer, crack a smile while watching the video below.
”Christmas Canon” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
I'll just say it: This rock version of “Christmas Canon” feels a lot like an '80s power ballad. Sadly, I get a kick out of it. So, love the guitar solos and laugh at the quasi-dance the ladies in black perform while singing. If you can't have fun at Christmas and enjoy cheesy things, when is a good time?
"Christmas Night of the Zombies" by MxPx
Anytime we can incorporate zombies into the holiday season, we're going to do it. In the video below, the song about Christmas zombies is synced with images from the movie 28 Days Later.
A Twismas Story by Conway Twitty
So, Mr. Twitty doesn't have any videos of him performing the holiday classics on his new Christmas album. I know, you're sad. But, if you're curious how bad it sounds, hit up Amazon to preview all 19 tracks. Go ahead and Laugh. We did. -- Chelsea Ide
