There are lots of big shows this weekend, and the one about which much ado has been made is the [DARYL] reunion at Sons of Hermann Hall tonight. Since the band broke up several years ago, members have continued playing around town in various other capacities. Tonight, they'll be joined by Rose County Fair.
But if you already saw your share of [DARYL] shows in the early aughts, there are plenty of other shows to see this weekend, starting with the ones we've already mentioned this week.
Tonight, This Will Destroy You and Sundress will perform at Granada Theater, and Pete Anderson will perform at AllGood Cafe. Also, Slipknot's Corey Taylor will be at Trees. Oh, and Between the Buried and Me will be at House of Blues with Animals as Leaders and Tesseact, and Ugly Lion will be at 2826 Arnetic with Katsuk, Night Owl Nurse and Tweed EQ. Indian Jewelry, Prince Rama, Darktown Strutters and New Fumes will be at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios and Junior Brown and Warren Hood will be at the Kessler Theater.
And on Saturday, Blues man Jim Suhler will do an acoustic set at Poor David's Pub along with Jason Elmore and Dan O'Connell.

Big on black makeup, black leather, and big black hair, I'm beginning to think Black Veil Brides might be a bit band -- kind of an emo KISS. The music is kind of like if Nickelback tried to rehash '80s metal. In other words: Awesome!
Calhoun, The O's, Apache 5
Friday, November 18, at Lola's Saloon
On the other side of the metroplex, Calhoun will be playing in their hometown of Fort Worth. A good time is almost certain, especially since The O's have signed on to open up. For those who have spent any time on the blog, you know your share about Calhoun. But in case you don't, they are a soft-rocking indie band.
Darstar, Here Holy Spain, Rocketarm

Tonight, Idol Records band Darstar will celebrate the release of their new record Tiny Darkness at La Grange, which was produced in part by John Dufilho and Casey Di lorio. It's a pretty hard rocking, punky record, so if that's what you're into, check 'em out.
Melt Banana, 400 Blows, Pinkish Black

Superfast Japanese noise band Melt Banana have been playing together under that name since 1992. In that time they've released an impressive 10 records and 20-some-odd EPs, each drawing from a quirky, punk energy that clearly drives the band. Don't like the song? That's OK, they are usually over in less than a minute.
GWAR, Every Time I Die, Warbeast

After hearing the news of the death of GWAR's guitarist Cory Smoot (Flattus Maximus), we were sure that this show would be canceled. But the band is trudging on, and Arlington's own Warbeast will join them as the opening act.
Hormones, Sealion

Speaking of local album releases, Hormones will be joined by Sealion to celebrate the release of their new record To The 9s at Dada tomorrow night. Cocky Americans and Blackstone Rangers will also be in tow.

We may have just found the root cause of illiteracy among American youth. It's this tour. Even worse, the only band spelled correctly is Drugs.
