It's not that any of the guys in Sleep Whale have something against their parents--to hear them tell it, by last year they were just plain over their old moniker. Especially after touring through Europe, where their old name, mom, had a way of coming out as "mum."
Since 2009's Houseboat, the Denton-based ambient electro-instrumental act says it's been fine-tuning its live act when they all get together rather than write much new material--just jamming, really. And, as they told us during last week's taping, they're likely to be taking a little time off to grow each of their individual projects: Northern, Abacus, Melting Season and Sunnybrook.
Which is all for the best in the end for Sleep Whale, too, they say--better to evolve with their individual interests than to wallow in the same old thing.
As an added bonus, the band gave the go-ahead for us to pass make the audio from last week's performance (with uncut versions of each track from the video above).
