A Crushed Stars show happens once every few years. That admission only costs five bucks should make for a sell-out show at LaGrange, and the band's latest album, In The Bright Rain, is deserving of one.

Easily my favorite moniker in all of hip- hop, Kool Keith's eight albums have earned him the respect of critics everywhere. Who knows which one of his multiple personalities will show up tonight.

Homage Nation: Underneath The Covers
Friday, July 27, at The Kessler Theater
This is yet another interesting concept from The Kessler Theater. Holt and Stockslager will do Simon and Garfunkel, Brent Best will sing Paul Westerberg, Ryan Thomas Becker will play Sparklehorse songs, Nicholas Altobelli does Ryan Adams, Danny Balis will sing Townes Van Zandt, Andrew Delaney will sing Tom Waits and Robbie Saunders will play Gram Parsons songs.

Girls Rock Dallas Showcase
Saturday, July 28, at Dada

This performance will culminate after a week of camp, in which the girls who attended the camp learned instruments and formed bands. Audra has more on it here.

The Log Ladies featuring Jeff Albert
Saturday, July 28, at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center
This bill, put on by Inner Realms Outer Realms, is billed as "A night of mutant jazz in Oak Cliff." New Orleans act The Log Ladies, featuring Jeff Albert, will get weird at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center. Chris Curiel's Swirve opens.

Whether it's the band's last show or not is anyone's guess. Singer Ally Hoffmann is moving to North Carolina, but the language the band uses on its Facebook page hints that the band will keep going.
