We're big fans of Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest here at DC9 HQ -- and not just because the name of the festival reminds of our or favorite 1964 beach-pop jam. Fact is, the festival's a heck of a take, a capable competitor for Austin music festival supremacy, offering the hipster elite set a more palatable option than Austin City Limits' lamestream vibes.
Plus, the folks behind the fest, Transmission Entertainment, are pretty gosh darn clever. In addition to offering "blind" ticket sales (a move cribbed earlier this year by 35 Denton), the FFF folk just seem to "get" social media. And, now, as the festival is celebrating its sixth year -- and, with it, moving away from Waterloo Park to the much-larger Auditorium Shores -- they're only upping their game on that front.
Today, Transmission went and leaked the first five names playing its bill. But it didn't do so in the traditional manner. Instead, they released the above video of nautical flags and this tandem decoder chart, asking fans to figure out the first five names on their lineup. Too lazy to figure it out? We'll clue you into the first five leaked names after the jump.
The early-announced names? Comedian Brian Posehn, Austin heroes Okkervil River, buzzing hip-hop collective Odd Future, noted John Hughes fans M83 and punk legends X.
Also, we've already been in touch with our friends in Transmission to do some ticket giveaways for the festival in the coming weeks. So keep an eye out for that.
