Starting, oh, in about an hour and a half now at 6 p.m. at Bryan Street Tavern (which promises to host regular live music shows any day now), friends of Carter Albrecht's will gather to host a listening party for Albrecht's posthumously released album Jesus is alive...and living in London. The album, you may remember, found itself released in early March when it was quietly published to iTunes.
This week, though, the album sees its official release, with a party scheduled for Thursday night at the Granada Theater, featuring an all-star cast of area friends and collaborators of Albrecht's performing his music on stage.
You'll see my thoughts on the album in their entirety in this week's print edition in a piece we've used to preview the Granada show. But, in the meantime, I'll say this: It might not be the greatest record ever produced by a Dallas artist--which probably isn't what a lot of fans want to hear--but it's a nice disk nonetheless, and one that certainly showcases Albrecht's talents as a performer and his blossoming skills as a songwriter.
In any case, given the circumstances surrounding it and the well-noted presence Albrecht had within the local music scene, it's certainly a near must-have for anyone who considers him or herself to be a local music collector. And the music held within certainly merits its $8.91 price on iTunes, that's for sure.
Anyway, head on over to Bryan Street Tavern in a little bit if you don't believe me. That party's expected to go until at least 9 p.m.
