Last time Acid Mothers Temple stopped through DFW for a gig, it did so up in Denton. About a year ago up at Hailey's, in fact. At the time, Elliott Johnston wrote this of the band:
Japanese collective Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. is probably the trippiest band on the planet. The group--an ever-revolving lineup led by ridiculously prolific guitar guru Makoto Kawabata--has all the heroically indulgent gusto that most Western bands took off the table after This is Spinal Tap. AMT's mind-bleeding take on acid rock, krautrock, prog, folk, free-jazz and Eastern drone comes with Lord of the Rings-style wizard wear, Fraggle Rock man manes and far-out LP titles (see The Penultimate Galactic Bordello... and Just Another Band From the Cosmic Inferno). And the act's artistic audacity really knows no gravity.
Kind words.
Now, with yet another album in tow, the ultra-prolific outfit is back with a gig at The Loft tomorrow night. And the crew over there has been kind enough to offer up a host of tickets to DC9 readers to get into the show for free--five pairs, to be exact. Want one of 'em? Email me right now with the words "Acid Test" in the subject line and, if you're one of the first five people to hit me up, you're gonna get a pair. Good luck!
Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners.
