Although to an American ear the name "Tame Impala" may sound like some sort of ironic hip-hop group, it actually refers to a species of antelope. Which is a lot more fitting for a western Australian psychedelic rock quartet who, in 2008, topped the Australian Independent Record Labels chart with their self-titled, debut EP. In May, after two years of touring with the likes of MGMT, the band finally released their debut album Innerspeaker.

And it seems that their touring experience had a lasting effect on their music: The band's sound can be best described as the '60s psychedelic rock sound and feel of the Beatles meeting the synths and effects found on the Congratulations incarnation of MGMT.

Tonight, the band continues adding onto its touring resume with a stop at The Loft, where it will share the stage with Oklahoma's Stardeath & White Dwarfs and Denton's Own Sundress.
