This weekend marks the end of an era: After a five-year run, the most critical critics in North Texas over at We Shot JR are calling it quits.
We suspect it's only a matter of days until the comments on DC9 increase in anonymity and negativity, but, before that happens, We Shot JR will say goodbye one last time with a big blowout called "We Shot JR is Dead" at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton. The show will consist of 15 or so bands, including One Baptist General, Early Lines, White Drugs, and Fungi Girls.
But if you're not interested mingling with the Denton elite, here are some other shows we've mentioned over the last week.
Tonight, Bad Brains will bring their classic blend of hardcore punk and reggae to Granada Theater. Here Holy Spain and Leg Sweeper will open the show. Meanwhile, Eleven Hundred Springs will be at Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth and rapper Wiz Khalifa will hotbox himself into House of Blues.
On Saturday, The Orbans, Calhoun, The Criminal Mind, and Magic of Adams will throw a Voodoo Carnivale at Lola's Saloon in Fort Worth, and Small Black, Class Actress, and Sextape will be at The Cavern on Lower Greenville.
On Sunday, the ultimate Halloween show will happen at South Side Music Hall with Danzig, Possessed, Marduk, Toxic Holocaust, and Withered, and, just upstairs, Helmet, Intronaut, and Descender will be at The Loft.
