In many ways, the Toadies' announcement about the impending re-release and in-process re-recording of its "lost" 1997 album, Feeler, yesterday afternoon wasn't very surprising. Hell, we guessed as much back in January. We also postulated that there'd be another disc from the Toadies in 2010 as well--this one comprised of new material.
So what of that second album announcement? Well, just a couple hours after the Feeler announcement, it too came. Only, well, it won't be out in 2010 as we'd originally guessed. Here's the word the band passed along on its web site yesterday afternoon:
Following summer and fall touring, we will re-enter the studio to record a batch of new songs. With a little luck there'll be another Toadies record out in early 2011.I'll be catching up with one or two of the Toadies over the phone here in a couple hours to ask some questions about both releases--most pertinently, "Why?" and "Why now?"
Assuming all goes according to plan, I'll have those answers to you in next week's paper. So keep an eye out for that.
