Motion City Soundtrack comes to Dallas supporting its newest record, My Dinosaur Life, in what will most definitely be a packed show. No surprise there: MCS has a sound that is very friendly to the Warped Tour audience, even if it isn't strictly for those crowds. Rather, this five-piece is something that a fan of Weezer, The Get Up Kids or even Ultimate Fakebook could enjoy. Especially the earlier stuff, which even the band seems to concede is its best material: In a recent string of shows, the band performed its first three albums front-to-back.
Thankfully, My Dinosaur Life, the band's first on Columbia Records after a stint on Epitaph Records, doesn't find Motion City Soundtrack resting on its laurels. The band's hooky, keyboard- and guitar-heavy pop has a sound that isn't all just fun and games: When a band has recorded with Ric Ocasek, Adam Schlesinger from Fountains of Wayne, Mark Hoppus from blink-182 and Eli Janney from Girls Against Boys, it's safe to say it has its feet planted in some pretty stable ground.
Six-piece Set Your Goals, a fellow Epitaph act, supports, as well as Fueled by Ramen acts This Providence and The Swellers.
