On Tuesday of next week, Spin will unleash Purplish Rain, a tribute record, quite obviously, for Prince's Purple Rain, released in conjunction with an oral history of the disc that the magazine is also putting out next week. And it's not just anybody on the disc: There's contributions from Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, of Montreal and The Twilight Singers, among others.
Visit Spin's site to stream former Afghan Whig Greg Dulli and the rest of his Twilight Singers' take on "When Doves Cry."
But, to be fair, we're a little more interested in the opening track on the comp--a re-working of "Let's Go Crazy" from Denton ex-pats The Riverboat Gamblers, which, really, is the kind of pairing of band and song that makes these types of tribute albums worth looking forward to hearing.
