You only have a few weeks left before you succumb to the inevitable spring fever brought on by longer daylight hours and patio invitations. If you are looking for the perfect soundtrack to contemplate a Texas sunset while you ponder coming out of hibernation, look no further than Seattle singer-songwriter Mike Hadreas' second album under the Perfume Genius moniker, Put Your Back N 2 It. His spare approach sounds like a melancholy daydream, albeit a dysfunctional one. Not scared to wrestle with demons of addiction, sexuality and fucked-up family, he manages to cloak Put Your Back N 2 It with warmth and restraint. "Floating Spit" sounds like it was literally produced underwater and comes to life under Hadreas' creative control. Perfume Genius' video advertisement promoting Put Your Back N 2 It, featuring Hadreas and gay porn star Arpad Miklos hugging, was recently banned from YouTube for violating its adult video content policy. In other news, all other female pop musicians' videos featuring sideboob and Girls Gone Wild commercials are still available online.
