Good Records
It's hard to beat Good Records' yearly Record Store Day celebration. They always manage to put a solid lineup together, but this one trumps any from years past. Thanks to Sunday's Edgefest, Good's Chris Penn was able to procure performance slots for Ting Tings, Civil Twilight and Switchfoot, along with a few other nationals (Joe Pug, Stardeath & White Dwarfs) and a handful of locals.
Penn says he's been taking some heat for booking Switchfoot and Civil Twilight, but he looks at it as a way to "draw the people who haven't been to a record store in a while."
It will be quite the racket, all of which will take place inside, on the Astroturf stage, starting at 8 a.m. Outside, Penn says there will be food trucks, kegs of beer and probably the Good Records Chicken. Check out the full lineup with times here.
CD Source
Just up Greenville Avenue a few miles, CD Source will be celebrating in a similar way, starting at at 7 a.m. It's an all-local lineup including Gaston Light, The O's, The Bright and about 10 others. Complimentary food will be provided by Freebirds, Baker Brothers and other respectable nearby restaurants.
CD Warehouse (Arlington)
First
of all, yes, CD Warehouse still exists. I was pretty sure my lazy
18-year-old ass put them out of business when I worked there in the
'90s, but the Arlington store location informs me that they too will be
celebrating Record Store Day. It will also be a grand reopening day, as
the store has relocated to a new space at 1213 S. Cooper. The lineup
will include Dead Beat Poetry, Playtime Rabbit, and a handful of other
local acts.
Forever Young Records
When
asked what Forever Young Records has planned for Record Store Day, the
clerk on the phone at says, simply, "We will be open." The store will
have official Record Store Day releases, barring that they "don't get
screwed again."
Doc's Records and Vintage
Doc's
Records and Vintage has a really nice Record Store Day offering for
Fort Worth music fans: The very solid lineup of Stoogeaphilia, Whiskey
Folk Ramblers, Fungi Girls, The Cush and more, coupled with free food
and free beer, will be tough to beat.
Mad World
Mad
Word owner Mark Burke opted out of the Record Store Day celebration
this year, saying, "There's too much going on in Denton this week and we
didn't want to compete." Instead, they'll be celebrating a month from
now, when they can get some bigger bands and have a bigger draw.
Bill's Records
Bill
Wisener doesn't celebrate Record Store Day. He celebrates his birthday,
which falls roughly on the same day. He'll have performances from DOMA-winning Ducado Vega, Blacktop Gypsy and many others, along with
"munchies throughout the day."
Recycled Books & Tapes
It's
a pretty impressive lineup at Recycled Books & Tapes on the Square
in Denton. They won't have any of the exclusive Record Store Day
releases, but performances from Doug Burr, Isaac Hoskins, Sam Robertson,
Tony Ferraro and Ryan Thomas Becker will more than make up for it. Oh,
and they're offering a big discount on all vinyl.
