The curatorial forces over at Green Bandana Group have been doing some pretty interesting things at theSPACE in Deep Ellum, and beyond. It was just a month ago that they launched electronic music showcase Neon Sessions, and since then they've hosted DJs, art parties and provided an after-hours alternative to the psychic death of the late-night after-party scene.
I asked GBG's Vince De Jesus about this Saturday's Deep Night Dance Party, which runs from 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., and ties into the two-year anniversary of the Deep Ellum Outdoor Market.
"There will be a number of things going on, including a food truck rally, outdoor market, a street party, an after-party at Dada and then an after-after-party at theSPACE. This is where pancakes enter the picture."
Whoa, Vince, slow down. I have very little impulse control when it comes to pancakes. Tell me more.
"The night will be a musically interactive one. People will be given a number to text song suggestions to. We'll play those songs, and dance all night. There will even be a wireless microphone or two for some impromptu karaoke. Because we'll all be hungry and need to sober up, celebrity chef Richard Pratt will be on the griddle whipping up an all-you-can eat pancake bar, possibly even some chicken tacos."
Ten bucks gets you that baller spread, and De Jesus says they'll be starting a series in August called #popUPdallas, with events at different spaces.
"If [this Saturday] works we'll probably do it again," he says. "Maybe make it a little fancier. Maybe stay open a little later. Who knows? We'll let our guests decide."
