OK, so there's a clause at the bottom of the press release we just received--y'know "The list is subject to change" blah, blah blah--but lo and behold, here it is: The first round of announced performers for the 23rd SXSW festival, schedule to take place this year March 18-22.

After the jump, the complete list the festival powers released today. But, first, a few notes.

  • Per usual, there's a slew of Austin bands already confirmed for the event. Meanwhile, as other Texas cities go, there's only one act from Houston listed (Rob Quest) and one act from Dallas (St. Vincent). Although, if we may: Greenville native Ben Kweller is listed as Austin-based here. Whatever.
  • Not too many big names announced just yet... so far, the biggest names: Explosions in the Sky, Dead Prez and, I dunno, Kid Sister? And, OK, Quincy Jones is the keynote speaker. But, again, whatever.
Of course, remember, this is just the first round of announcement. We've got about three month more of them to come. --Pete Freedman
