There will probably be a lot of Annie Clark, or as she's known on stage St. Vincent, news on DC9 in the coming weeks. Call it a hunch.
Fresh off the heals of announcing a September 13 release date for her third record Strange Mercy, and a Sunday, October 23, Kessler Theater show, the excitement for all things Annie Clark is certainly growing -- especially considering all the local ties surrounding the new record.
Dallas super producer John Congleton was called back after doing a brilliant job producing her second album Actor, and so was Midlake's McKenzie Smith, who drummed on the sophomore release.
And now we find, thanks to Cover Me, that Clark is keeping the buzz moving with a couple of impressive Tom Waits covers, both of which were performed at a Tom Waits Rain Dogs tribute show on July 13 at London's Barbicon Theater. Both songs, "Big Black Mariah," and "Tango Til They're Sore," which can be seen after the jump, find Clark tapping into her twisted, slightly more demented side. Either that or she's just a good Actor.
You also might notice in the first video, "Big Black Mariah," which offers a closer look at Clark's expert guitar work, she's got a ring on her finger. But no worries dudes, a source close to Clark confirms that she ain't hitched, so you may continue to hold out hope that she might ask you to marry her, John.
