For all of the lovely folks in the Dallas music scene, Christmas came a little early this year. Or to put it another way, the Dallas Observer Music Awards showed up a little late. But it wound up working out perfectly: We kicked off December in the best way possible, with all the requisite insanity of the DOMA showcase in Deep Ellum and then, a few days later, all the drunken kudos our hungover heads could muster at the DOMA ceremony.
Throughout both nights of DOMA action, we had our resident chronicler, Mike Brooks, there to take photos. But we also had our videographer, Sarah Passon, there to shoot video -- just in case your memory got a little blurry or you second-guessed whether that marching band really did show up.

The showcase was our biggest one yet in the 26-year history of the DOMAs, with 60 bands spread across nine venues, giving us eight-straight hours of live music. The video, which features Sam Lao's live performance of "Frizzy Hair Swag" from her set at The Door, hops around between venues capturing the scenes of the night: Dallas Uber Alles on the patio at Club Dada, the Roomsounds onstage at Trees and the crowds that swarmed Elm St. like in the days of yore that the young'uns hear so much about.
The second half of the video captures the prom party that was the awards ceremony at Granada Theater (with Goodnight Ned steering the music selection). There are plenty of Tuaca-fueled thank you's to be had, with special shout-outs going to Aaron Gonzalez and Blue, the Misfit's parents who were there in the audience, as well as some conspicuous-looking crowns. Oh, and there was the End of the World Parade. Because you can't have a prom without a marching band, can you?
