Media outlets in Chicago are reporting this morning that Brianna Gardner, a 22-year-old from Dallas, was fatally shot in the head in an upscale Chicago hotel.

Gardner's body was discovered in her seventh-floor room by the Whitehall Hotel housekeeping staff. One guest told the Chicago Tribune they heard a gunshot at about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The case has been ruled a homicide. A relative of Gardner, reached this morning at her Duncanville home, declined to comment.

Update on Aug. 15: As has been pointed out, Gardner had a history. She was arrested by Chicago police on a prostitution charge last week. She'd been arrested in Texas on the same charge last April. According to ABC 7 Chicago, she'd been looking for work as a stripper or nude model.
