Something happened to me at City Hall today, where I went in hopes of chronicling the mayor's Trinity Toll Road speech. I have really debated with myself about going public with it. But my hope is that if I tell my story, other men who have been through the same thing won't feel so isolated.
I was attacked and woman-handled by two persons just because I was wearing my hatcam. It was the most brutal thing you ever saw.
One of them, Dallas city manager Mary Suhm, more or less threatened to "rip that off your ear" and then the other one, political advertising guru Carol Reed, proceeded to make physically aggressive gestures toward my head.
I was compelled to remove my hatcam myself in a hasty and awkward fashion in order to stave off further violence. If you watch the video -- first, make sure your children are out of the room -- you will hear Reed threaten to beat me up.
I'm not kidding. Watch the film if you don't believe me.
And let me say something right here and now. The hatcam will not be stopped. The hatcam does not bend before thuggery nor bow to threats of physical violence. The hatcam marches on proudly, regardless what peril may lie ahead.
Off camera, after hatcamming had stopped, Suhm made a remark to the effect that either she or Reed alone could take me. That's ridiculous.
Obviously if they're going to come at me en masse, so to speak, like a Beth Phoenix/Barbara BB Bush tag team, that's different. But solo, mano a mano? No way. If one of them wants to try me alone, I will be waiting in the ring with the gloves on. And the hatcam.
I think I may have serious whiplash.
